UPDATE ON ROAD WORKS IN WARRISTON

Permission has been granted by Martin Watson from the Council to circulate this email to the residents of Warriston Estate. Martin is overseeing the works and as you will see he has informed us of the schedule of works and the parking restrictions that are being operated for the next 14 weeks. The WRA committee will continue to inform you on any further updates but we ask that everyone is considerate and respectful to everyone involved in this project.

I’m writing to provide an update on the footway works for Warriston Drive and Terrace as there has been some confusion and queries raised by residents, most notably around permits and parking.

The contractor started on Monday 25th April with some work at the Warriston Terrace junction to verify ground conditions and start the install for the lighting column ducting, from today they will be starting on the south footway at the Inverleith Row junction on resetting the kerbing throughout the area, once they have done this they will excavate the footways to lay new material along with the lighting columns and associated ducting. Once this is completed they will move on to the carriageway surfacing.

Due to the nature of the works we have to prevent access to driveways when the kerbs are being done and again when the footways are excavated, as there will be a time delay between the kerbing and footway surfacing the contractor will install temporary work to allow access for residents in between the two phases of the footway surfacing. This is to reduce inconveniences to the residents and limit pressure on the permit parking in the area.

Most of the residents have contacted me with details which is great, I’m monitoring the progress of the contractor and as the works progress toward each property I will contact the resident via email to let them know that the permit is now valid for their vehicle, once the works pass their property and access is available I will contact the resident again to tell them that they can use their drive and that the permit will be closed. Permits are issued digitally so there is nothing that the residents have to display on their vehicle and the wardens can check this on their personal computers. There has been some residents that have raised concerns that they haven’t heard from myself, I can assure you however that if they have provided their details I have them on file and will contact them via email when the works will start to affect them.

The permits issued allows residents to park anywhere within the N2 parking zone, below is the link to the councils parking zone map for information:

I’ve also had some residents request more than one permit per property, unfortunately we cannot provide more than one, the reason for this is to limit the extra pressure on parking availability in the area the works will cause. Between the temporary suspension of the bays on Warriston Drive and Terrace and the additional vehicles from driveways there may not be enough space to accommodate everyone at once, by adopting the methods describes this ensures that both existing and short-term permit holders will still have space to park and as close as possible to their homes.

Best regards and if you or any residents have any queries please do not hesitate to get in touch,
