GEORGE HERIOTS SCHOOL INFORMATION

Copy email sent to Scott Hastings:-

Hope all well with you – we met previously in relation to the consultation on the school’s approach to new astroturf pitches at Goldenacre, and in your capacity of involvement with the local residents group.

A lot of water under the bridge since then through covid and everything else, but just to let you know that the school have recently resubmitted for alternative proposals adjacent to Ferry Road, and these are live in the planning system.

The revisd proposals have responded to previous comments obtained through consultation and now include a full-size pitch parallel to the current astroturf on the other (north) side of the Kenny Scotland pavilion (roughly on the site of the current grass hockey pitch), a Junior School pitch behind the pavilion, the necessary boundary fencing, LED floodlighting, including upgraded LED floodlighting to the existing astroturf pitch, the removal and relocation of the cricket scoreboard, tree and hedge planting and landscaping around the site.

The need for the project is driven by current constrained capacity for hockey at Goldenacre to meet school and community requirements, and the school are keen to demonstrate the significant benefits the project will bring, in particular on:

•           Health and wellbeing through sport

•           Encouraging involvement in sport by young people

•           Community benefit of additional safe, lit, multi-sports surfaces.

•           The plan to increase biodiversity and to improve the overall ecology of Goldenacre.

You can view the details on the Council’s planning portal with reference 24/00850/FUL or by following thisLINK Comments can now be made and this will be open until 30 March 2024

Happy to chat you through the background on this if helpful, and grateful if you could share with your local residents as appropriate.

Regards

Craig
