Front Gardens Competition 2023
Over the ten or more years that Front Gardens in Warriston have been judged, this has been done in different seasons in order to spread the interest and allow a wider range of residents to have the honour of being the winner. No-one has been winner in successive years although it could happen!
Every front garden in the Warriston estate as well as those in Inverleith Row are visited and given points out of ten. Those gaining seven or more points were:-
Warriston Avenue Numbers 18, 20, 32, 36, 41, 50
Warriston Drive Numbers 19, 40, 41
Warriston Gardens Numbers 18, 29, 30, 31
Warriston Terrace Numbers 20, 21, 31, 35, 47
Inverleith Row Numbers 102, 104
Congratulations, to this year’s winner Margaret Head who lives at 29 Warriston Gardens with 8.5 points The gardens were judged on the same day so no account was taken of what they were like the days before or following.
Garden Notes
There were many appreciative comments on the bulbs flowering in the grassy strip at the west end of Warriston Drive. This has its colourful impact, the grass was left un-trimmed to allow the foliage to die back and build up the bulbs for the next spring season. Many passer- by along the two paths at the east end of Warriston Gardens have stopped to compliment the efforts to make the Community Garden an attraction to all. Early in the year, snowdrops made a small carpet of white. Look out in future years as three areas were planted with about 2000 bulbs ‘in the green’ in groups of 3 – 5.Narcissus (Daffodils) are multiplying in several places having been bought cheaply before the Christmas period. Initially it was intended that the area was devoted to wild flowers but donations of plants attractive to insects and other wildlife have been included. Thanks are due to the various donors and helpers.
