Recent article from June 2021 Spurtle…

OFFICIALS IN A TIGHT SPOT

An obligation to ‘secure the Council’s estate’ prompted repairs last month to Warriston Cemetery’s East Gate on Warriston Rd. A cast- iron spar here had been absent for 25+ years, giving limber locals convenient access. But officials, facing potential insurance/legal issues if members of the public should injure themselves squeezing through, felt obliged

to plug the gap. Somecemetery users objected on social media, and feared

another informal access from Warriston Junction would soon follow suit.

Others suggested a better solution would be to formalise and improve access for all at both points. Mysteriously, the new spar went missing 3 days later. Police Scotland have been informed.
